Pakistan Juniors Beat Guangdong 5-2 in Gojra as the Tour Heads to Lahore for the Finale

The Gojra game finally has a scoreline, and it’s a comfortable one. Pakistan’s junior side beat Guangdong 5-2 on Wednesday, 28 October, in the sixth match of the Chinese provincial side’s Pakistan tour. They were 3-2 up at half-time and pulled away with two more after the break. That’s the tour’s joint-biggest winning margin for a home side, level with Mari Energies’ 5-2 in the opener, and it keeps the pattern of this trip intact: Guangdong have been competitive in every game, but the Pakistani sides keep finding a way. The report out of Gojra has no scorers named, so there’s no point pretending otherwise — the score and the half-time split are what’s on record. The local officials were there in force, which tells you how much Gojra wanted this one to land: the district commissioner and police chief alongside PHF’s Tahir Zaman. For the youngsters, that’s the whole point of the fixture. A different style of hockey, a home crowd, and a proper test before the bigger dates on the calendar, including the SCO tournament planned for Islamabad in November. One game left now. Guangdong play Pakistan Police at the DHA Hockey Stadium in Lahore on Thursday 29 October, then fly home on Friday. Police will want to close the tour out with a win. Guangdong, with nothing to lose and a flight booked, will want to spoil it.
