German Hockey Bundesliga 2026-27: Season Guide — Clubs, Format and the Winter Break
Germany’s men are world champions, and world No. 1 after the 2026 World Cup. This is the league that built them.
The Bundesliga’s 2026-27 season is already under way, run by the Deutscher Hockey-Bund, with 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams in the top flight.
The names on the fixture list
The men’s competition reads like a history of German hockey. Mannheimer HC, Rot-Weiss Köln, UHC Hamburg, Hamburger Polo Club, Harvestehuder THC, Der Club an der Alster, HTC Uhlenhorst Mülheim, Berliner HC, Crefelder HTC, Münchner SC and DSD Düsseldorf are among the clubs going at it this season.
The men’s regular season runs from 18 September 2026 to 9 May 2027, and the full season, play-offs included, is listed to 31 May 2027. Fixtures were already being played on the weekend of 10–11 October, with the table starting to take shape.
The league that goes indoors for winter
Here’s the quirk no other major league copies. When the German winter arrives, the outdoor season pauses and hockey moves indoors. Germany is the spiritual home of the indoor game, so the players don’t stop; they switch formats. Come spring, the outdoor campaign picks up again and builds towards the May play-offs.
Follow this league and you’re following the core of the world’s No. 1 men’s team, plus a German women’s side that sits sixth in the world rankings. That’s reason enough. SportsCursor’s German Bundesliga section will carry the season’s big stories from here to the play-offs.
