Hoofdklasse Round 8: Bloemendaal v Den Bosch and Oranje-Rood v Amsterdam Headline Sunday
Round 8 of the Tulp Hoofdklasse men’s league doesn’t ease anyone in. Sunday 8 November throws the top three into two heavyweight ties, and the table could look very different by Sunday night.
First up, Bloemendaal host Den Bosch at Sportpark ‘t Kopje. Den Bosch are joint top on 19 points from seven games, behind Amsterdam only on goal difference. Bloemendaal are fourth on 14 points, and they held Amsterdam to a 2-2 draw last Sunday, so they know they can live with the top sides. Den Bosch, meanwhile, hammered KZ 8-1 in Round 7. That’s the form line here: a side that can score eight against anyone, visiting a side that just stopped the leaders.
Then there’s Oranje-Rood v Amsterdam at Sportpark Aalsterweg in Eindhoven. Amsterdam are joint top on 19 points, and Oranje-Rood are third on 16 points with a game in hand. Win this, and Oranje-Rood go level at the top with a game still to spare. Lose, and Amsterdam open up daylight. It’s the kind of game that decides whether a title race has two teams in it or three, and Oranje-Rood’s game in hand makes it even spicier. They’ve been the quiet climbers of the season so far.
The wider picture is tight. Amsterdam and Den Bosch on 19, Oranje-Rood on 16 from six games, Bloemendaal on 14. Four teams, five points between them, and two of them play each other on Sunday while the other two do the same. For our money, Amsterdam’s away trip to Eindhoven is the hardest assignment of the weekend. Oranje-Rood at home, with the table in reach, are a dangerous proposition.
